Good simple blog KennyP. Like the examples.

Just a few pointers that may help some of you:

1. Don't forget about internal back links if you have a website or more than one page, they don't count for as much but it all adds up.

2. Try to keep your anchor text for each link descriptive and the same or at least consistent. This is because Google's algorithm uses the anchor text to figure out the relevance of the link.
So for all you guys who just typed your web address without descriptive anchor text, you just wasted Google points!
Don't get me wrong, its still a back link but you might as well do it right if your going to do it at all as all points add up.

3. Use the keywords you want to rank high for in search engines within your anchor text.

4. For all you people who love to use images as a link, make sure you make use of the ALT text in the same way as Google uses this in a similar way to the anchor text.

is there a limit on the number of backlinks?

There is no limit on the number of back links you can or should setup on your website or blog but be careful on how quickly you create those back links and also where those back links are from.

For example if you setup 100 back links in a couple of weeks thats okay, but if you setup 100 back links in 30 mins, it might ring some alarm bells with some search engines and they may penalize you.

Another thing to look at is page rank. A back link from a Google page rank 0-1 is worth a LOT less than a link from a 5-10 page ranked page.
There are a few add in toolbars for FireFox web browser that will let you know the page rank of the page you are viewing.
